Filitheyo Island Resort

Filitheyo Island Resort We stopped at Filitheyo for our honeymoon for 2 weeks beginning the 21st July 2008. I can not recommend the island highly enough.

I’ll start with the diving as we really enjoyed it. We did 6 boat dives, 2 house reef dives and 2 night dives. The dive centre is very organised and all the staff are extremely helpful, the house reef is outstanding and on our first check dive we saw a turtle. We did most of our dives with Hanif & Simbe and socialised with them in the evening they were fantastic, as were all the Maldivian staff we met. My favourite dive though by far was the night dive and if you haven’t done one before I would highly recommend it. The diving seemed reasonably priced and it worked out at approx. £25 each per dive including all the kit hire.

The food would definitely be Filitheyo’s best attribute if I had to pick one. We went half board and found every meal a delight. There was a lot to choose from and the best bit was it was all homemade, from the bread to the soup to the Jam for breakfast. We were spoilt for choice everyday. We had the honeymoon meal at the Sunset bar which was marvellous and very reasonable in price, you can have this meal on the beach but we opted to have it inside as it was quite windy at the time.

We stayed in a deluxe detached villa on the beach, villa number 8. Our room was very spacious and always spotlessly clean, we loved the outdoor bathroom and the closeness to the beach so we were glad that we didn’t pay the extra for a water bungalow. The whole two weeks we hardly saw anyone while we were sunbathing so it was lovely and private. I would disagree with one of the previous reviews regarding the construction on the new spa, our room was directly behind the building site and we were not disturbed once by the work. Don’t let this put you off at all as we hardly noticed it was there.

We also had a fantastic 90min double massage in the spa, the treatments were amazing and I would love to go back once the new improved spa has been built. We also really enjoyed the half-day trip to Hamza island, it was a really bizarre feeling being the only two people there. It was truly a magical morning and the food provided was yet again superb. If you do go watch out for the islands resident chicken as he stole our starter while we were distracted with some black tip reef sharks!!

All in all it was the best place we’ve visited and any other resort will never compare. All the staff were genuinely friendly and the island was very well looked after. I can’t wait to go back and if you are considering going to the Maldives this has got to be the island you go to if you want good food, snorkelling and diving and to be totally looked after for the duration of your stay.

We went to Filitheyo for our honeymoon after previously visiting two other islands in the Maldives (Hakuraa club & Vilu reef) and found it to be the best of the three. The island and accommodation are fantastic, we had a beach bungalow which was immaculate & had an outdoor bathroom (which sounds strange but is great)

The food and service was second to none, we never had a bad meal, there was an unbelievable amount of choice and you had your own dedicated table with your own waiter for the duration of your stay (on previous holidays in the Maldives we have had to share a table at dinner due to the limited amount of space on the islands and we prefer our own company)

The snorkelling is great and the beaches wonderful and not crowded at all, you have your own dedicated loungers on the beach & are some distance from your neighbours.

We recommended the island to my brother & sister-in-law for their holidays this year (2008) and they absolutely loved it as well.

I hope this is helpful, if you are thinking of going don't think twice, just go!
